Join historian and author Suzanne Litrel on a journey to colonial Latin America, where she explores the stories of three extraordinary Spanish-American women. Her discussion will feature the adventures of Catalina de Erauso (1592-1650), the “Lieutenant Nun”; Sister Juana Inés de la Cruz (1648-1695), the first poet and “Phoenix of the Americas,” and La Pola (1795-1817), the “Seamstress Spy” of Bogotá. Wielding weapons of choice—sword, pen, needle--these women cut through their cloistered lives to create previously unimagined new worlds.
