JFK Part II: Family, Presidency, and Tragedy

In this course, we will finish talking about the presidency of John F. Kennedy. What mistakes were made that helped to cause the Cuban Missile Crisis? How did JFK really feel about American military involvement in Southeast Asia, especially Vietnam? We’ll look at that, especially the Indochina War, in detail.  What was JFK’s relationship with the CIA and the defense establishment?  We’ll look at that. How did President Kennedy really feel about the Space Race? One of JFK’s favorite authors was Ian Fleming. Could the real-life “James Bond” have prevented Pearl Harbor? We’ll examine it. Almost 60 years later, why is there still so much controversy and/or disagreement among a big segment of the population concerning the events of November 22, 1963, i.e., the JFK assassination? We’ll examine that tragic day and various theories about who – or what - might have been behind the murder of the 35th president. We’ll look at the so-called Kennedy curse and the so-called zero theory in American presidential history. And once again, we’ll share our “where were you?” stories, that is, where were you when various historical events took place. The format will be lecture/discussion, so please bring all of your questions, comments, opinions, etc. Get ready for a lively discussion about all of these topics, and more!
