Visual Novels and Interactive Storytelling I (Grades 9-12)

Visual novels are a form of “interactive fiction”, a genre that mixes elements of both literature and video games. Participants in this camp will learn how to develop their own interactive stories.  Campers will start by creating linear stories and dialogues using the Ren’Py engine. Throughout the week, they will learn how to expand these with multimedia (character and background graphics, sound effects, music, animations, and movies) as well as gameplay elements such as “choose-your-own-adventure” decisions and alternate routes.  In addition to developing technical skills, campers will be introduced to fundamental game design and story-telling principles.
