The Great Victorian Novel- Charles Dickens- Bleak House

As a class, we will read Dicken's masterpiece, Bleak House (1853) considered one of the richest and most important novels in the English language.  Set in the rolling Victorian period, a time of enormous social, economic and environmental change.  We will examine Dicken's presentation of wealth and poverty, vagrancy and pollution, the police and crime, the city and country, marriage and parenthood, the role of women and Dicken's pungent treatment of governance, the law and philanthropy.
