Analyzing Police/Lawyer Current Cases

This course will discuss many criminal law issues commonly portrayed in television dramas such as “Law & Order” and “Blue Bloods.” It will discuss the differences between murder and manslaughter, 1st and 2nd degree murder, and voluntary and involuntary manslaughter. It will explore felony murder, how and why prosecutors make deals, when self-defense is justified, what is entrapment, how defendants are caught in the web of conspiracies and accomplice liability, and what types of evidence are allowed in court. It will also examine search and seizures, interrogation techniques and confessions, and the role of the judge and jury.
