Beginning Knitting

Learn basic knitting techniques by making a pair of fingerless mitts knit flat and a matching hat knit in the round.  These two small projects provide a solid foundation and introduce the new knitter to, casting on, binding off, tensioning yarn, the knit and purl stitch, and combinations of these two stitches to create new stitch patterns.  They will demonstrate simple increase and decrease technicques used to shape knitted fabric and teach basic seaming techniques, to complete projects ready to wear before the winter season ends.  This class will also include an introduction to tools used for knitting, reading ball bands, understanding yarn weights categories and the basics of making and using a gauge swatch.  Materials for this course will be provided.
