« back to classes page
This second part of the classic film western course will pick up the history of the western in 1962 with John Ford's "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" and conclude with James Mangold's 2007 remake of the original 1950's classic "3:10 To Yuma." Included in the course will be films by Sam Peckinpah ("The Wild Bunch"), Marlon Brando ("One Eyed Jacks"), Sergio Leone ("The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly"), and Clint Eastwood ("The Unforgiven").  The course will examine how the western genre film has changed from the early work of John Ford and Howard Hawks to the more recent work of Clint Eastwood and Quentin Tarantino.  Part 1 is not a prerequisite for Part 2.
