« back to classes page
Designed as an introduction for those who would want to start and for those who would want a refresher, as well as those who are currently painting. We will explore and explain the use of oil paint with an emphasis on realism/impressionism using a limited palette. Student skills and knowledge will be evaluated along with their individual needs and goals.  A supply list will be provided and discussed at the first class.  The course will begin with methods of setting up a proper palette, brush selection, thinners, and dryers. Special emphasis will be placed
on safe studio habits. We will paint "wet on wet" - Alla Prima.  Students will complete class exercises after each teacher demonstrations. This will include making color charts and practicing oil techniques. Demonstrations will emphasis basics of good composition, value (tone), color and light.
