Six Sigma is a Quality Improvement methodology structured to reduce product or service failure rates to a negligible level (roughly 3.4 failures per million opportunities). To achieve six sigma levels, the Six Sigma process encompasses all aspects of a business, including management, service delivery, design, production and customer satisfaction. As a philosophy Six Sigma drives business culture and requires a nearly flawless execution of key processes making Six Sigma a high standard for companies and individuals to achieve.

The Six Sigma Greenbelt online program provides knowledge to help you effectively apply the concepts and methods of Six Sigma. You'll discover how the vast number of topics—value-stream mapping, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), process capability, control charts, statistical process control (SPC), design of experiments (DOE), and many more—can increase your overall quality IQ.  After completing this course, you'll be well-prepared to sit for the Six Sigma Green Belt certification exam offered by the American Society for Quality (ASQ) (Exam Voucher Included) as well as be positioned to add value to a wide variety of organizations, including manufacturing companies, service operations, and the government sector.

Areas of concentration include determining the relationship of basic statistics to Six Sigma, examining the Six Sigma business case, listening to the voice of the customer (VOC), seeing how quality function deployment (QFD) can improve new product development, and discovering the value of benchmarking.  As a Six Sigma Green Belt, you'll be right in the middle of many process improvement projects as you apply brainstorming, cause and effect diagrams, checksheets, Pareto charts, and critical to quality help define problems, and opportunities.

Prerequisite: Students should have a general understanding of basic mathematical functions, the reading comprehension level of a high school graduate, and general proficiency in using Windows-based computer software.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize why organizations implement Six Sigma.
  • Understand the relationship between lean concepts and Six Sigma.
  • Apply the voice of the customer (VOC) to the voice of the process (VOP).
  • Incorporate high-performing team concepts to acheive effective Six Sigma process improvement initiatives.
  • Understand statistical distributions as a way to evaluate hypotheses and meansure process performance..
  • Recognize the benefits of applying statistical process control as a replacement for appraisal/inspection.
  • Apply design of experiments (DOE) to simultaneously evaluate the effects of several independent variables on a dependent variable.
