Landscape design is a field where you may work independently with homeowners, as an employee or subcontractor with a landscape installation company, or with home building contractors to help complete new home landscapes. Over 12 weeks you will be introduced to the theory and concepts of successful landscape design, materials options and elements of successful design necessary to prepare a residential landscape plan. Students will put learning into practice with three drawing assignments during the course, evaluating design found in other gardens, and a site visit to a nursery to aid in learning identification and understanding the plant shapes and textures as part of the design process. Upon completion of the course, you will be able to: • Perform a needs analysis of the residential landscape opportunity. • Select appropriate plant material for design implementation. • Create a design that represents the goals of the homeowner, is aesthetically pleasing and includes the elements of good design principles. Landscapers, homeowners, nursery professionals and related horticulture professionals will enhance their skill set by adding this certificate to their career tools.
