May 5, 12 and 19. From the opening of the Atlanta Campaign in May 1864, which involved fighting in and around Dalton to the final battles for possession of Atlanta, we will visit various battlefields of the campaign. KSU instructor Michael K. Shaffer, working with local specialists, will lead you on tours scheduled for three consecutive Saturdays in May 2018. Walk in the fields of Resaca, including the newly opened Camp Creek site, where the armies of Major General William T. Sherman dug-in opposite the Army of Tennessee. Resaca guide Tony Patton will assist this tour. Steve Davis of Atlanta will join us, as we investigate the fighting at Peachtree Creek, Ezra Church, and other locations, as Confederate General John Bell Hood attempted to hold the city. Finally, noted Dalton expert Robert Jenkins will lead us on a tour of the various earthworks in and around Dalton, as we explore the opening action of the Atlanta Campaign. These tours will compliment the 'Atlanta Campaign' course at KSU's College of Continuing and Professional Education.
