This course will explore the US Submarine Force war against Japanese shipping and naval forces during World War 2. It will discuss the various submarine types used by the US and other Allied nations and the equipment and technology used by the Japanese to counter this threat. We will discuss the various phases of the War in the Pacific, including the development of additional missions and roles for the submarine force. The course will also explore the initial challenges in technology and leadership faced by the US submarines, and how overcoming these issues resulted in strangulation of the Japanese home islands supply system.
