April 30th marked the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, when North Vietnam conquered South Vietnam on April 30, 1975. Join us for a look back at the Vietnam War, from Vietnam’s conflicts with neighboring China going back to the first century, to resisting French colonization, to fighting Japanese occupation in World War II, to fighting the French again after the war, to slow, U.S. involvement, to Nixon’s “peace with honor” in 1973, to the final end of the war on April 30, 1975. And where were you during key events in this “our brush with history”, such as the 1954 division of Vietnam at the 17th parallel? The 1963 coup and then murder of South Vietnam’s president Ngo Dinh Diem, exactly three weeks before the assassination of JFK? The turning point Tet Offensive in 1968? The return of American POWs in 1973? How did the Vietnamese do it? Successfully fight and eventually expel the Chinese, the French, the Japanese, the French again, and the United States? This is a lecture/discussion format, so bring your comments and questions!

Bring a brown bag lunch, invite a friend, and join us for this informative, interesting, and free lecture! Registration is required.
