Instructed by Certified Legal Interpreters with local experience in a variety of case types, this course is designed to help prepare you for Georgia state certification program. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to be included in our graduate job board upon completion of your state certification.
The Legal Interpreter program will provide you knowledge in the following areas:
- Interpreting skills (consecutive and simultaneous interpreting, and sight translation)
- Legal terminology - language-specific legal terms and expressions
- Basic court room procedures and protocols; understanding of the judicial system and common focus of court assignments (including required observations of local courts)
- Ethics and roles of the interpreter within the judicial system
- Cultural competency
Prerequisite: High School Diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of Heritage Spanish or Spanish Series Two courses OR complete Written and Oral Skills Assessment OR submit transcript from another language assessment (TOEFL iBT, CLEP, ACTFL/LTI) for evaluation and submit Program Application. Working knowledge of computers and access to computer and internet are required.
