Mobile website development involves many of the same technologies and practices used in traditional web development, so you will begin by learning the languages behind traditional web development: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. You will also learn jQuery, the most popular of all JavaScript frameworks. These new web development skills will help you build sophisticated mobile websites with jQuery Mobile. By the end of the course, you will be able to build traditional websites or take existing websites and convert them to dynamic mobile websites.

 

Prerequisite: There are no specific prerequisites for this program, but students should be reasonably knowledgeable about computers and using the internet.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn the basics of Web Development and HTML.
  • Start building HTML5 pages.
  • Learn the benefits of CSS including advanced techniques and shorthand properties.
  • Learn how JavaScript is used.
  • Get started with jQuery.
  • Learn additional steps for becoming a Mobile Web Developer.

Requirements: A Web browser. You will need Internet Explorer 7 or later, Firefox 3 or later, Chrome 5 or later, or Safari 3 or later. Any text or HTML editor. Suggested editors for each platform are as follows:

Windows
  • Crimson Editor (free)
  • Adobe Dreamweaver
  • Notepad (included in Windows) or Textpad

 

Mac OS X
  • Adobe Dreamweaver
  • TextMate, TextEdit (included in Mac OS X) or TextWrangler

 

You will receive a password and log-in information via email within 3-5 business days of registering for this course. Course materials are included and will be mailed to you within 10 business days. You have 12 months to complete this course. You must make an 70 or higher as your final grade to successfully complete the course and receive a certificate of completion.
